On November 28, 2022, the prizes of the fifth inter-university study project of the Wissensnetzwerk Stadt und Handel e.V. were awarded at the Urbanicom conference in Fürth. Fortunately, a contribution of our institute could also achieve a prize. The students Judith Lohner, Lea Schmidt and Leah Weiss received the special prize for their work "Retail and actor network analysis in the Würselen city center". Their poster can now be found on the 5th floor of the seminar building.

The Wissensnetzwerk Stadt und Handel e.V. provides a platform for exchange between universities/ colleges and partners from practice (e.g. trade associations, municipalities, private sector). The different departments of the participating universities as well as the different partners from practice guarantee an inter- and intradisciplinary exchange.

The motto of this year's study project was "What does trade mean here?". This topic was chosen because today, more urgently than ever, there is a need for an active approach to the transformation processes in (inner) cities, the development of innovative and economically sustainable business models as well as ecological and urban planning-architectural approaches to solutions. Inner-city retail locations must be further developed in such a way that they create the conditions for new retail concepts and place them in the context of integrated spatial-functional concepts.

A total of 17 papers from 6 universities were submitted to an interdisciplinary jury, which were developed during various courses in the summer semester of 2022.
