Does digitization change consumers shopping behavior?
As part of a course in the Master Program Economic Geography in winter semester 2018/19, students dealt with the topics of digitization, value chains, the transformation process of the German shoe industry, consumer behavior and their effects on trade.
Within this project, the students developed their own research questions and hypotheses from current scientific contributions and discussions. In order to test these hypotheses, a questionnaire was created. The survey was conducted between 11.03. and 24.03.2019 in Aachen.
The results of the project study were presented at the IHK Aachen by the students on 10.07.2019.
The following key questions were in focus:
- What influence does digitization have on the shoe trade?
- How does ecommerce change brick and mortar stores/retail?
- Which framework conditions significantly influence the purchasing site selection process?
