Prof. Dr. Suntje Schmidt will be the substitute head for the chair of Economic Geography until September 2020 which is currently led by Prof. Martina Fromhold-Eisebith.

Prof. Schmidt has worked as a research associate and representative department chief of the research division “Dynamics of economic areas” at the Leibniz Institute for Research on Society and Space. In 2016, Prof. Schmidt received the junior professorship for Applied Economic Geography at the Humboldt University in Berlin.

After studying Geography, American Studies and Business Administration in Berlin and at the City College in New York, Prof. Schmidt finished her studies in 2011 in Berlin with her doctoral thesis concerning knowledge-spillovers in knowledge economy.

At the moment, Prof. Schmidt is leading a subproject in the project network “Innovation Hub 13” and is part of another project at the Leibniz Institute for Research on Society and Space.
